Australian Air League
The Australian Air League (AAL) is a national youth organisation for boys and girls aged 8 and older, providing a safe and supportive environment for those interested in aviation. Run by volunteers, the AAL emphasises discipline and leadership through structured drill, social activities, and engaging lessons. Cadets explore topics like aircraft construction, flight theory, engines, navigation, and astronomy at an age-appropriate level, with practical activities including model making, drone flying, and electronics. Through these experiences, the AAL fosters a passion for aviation and personal development.

With the support from the Sir Ross and Sir Keith Smith Fund, flight experience events such as glider flights, light aircraft and helicopter flights are available to all our cadets each year. Attendance at airshows, some of which are interstate, such as Avalon, was also supported by the Trust. The Trust offers three $1,000 scholarships each year to support cadets in their pursuit of learning to fly. For instance, the Trust supported the Barossa Airshow and the Mildura Airshow in 2024.

Many of the cadets have gone on to learn to fly or pursue careers in aviation, experiences made possible by the generous support of the Trust. For others, the AAL offers a nurturing environment where exceptionally gifted youth can connect with peers who may not excel in the same way. Together, their shared interest fosters an inclusive atmosphere where all are welcome to thrive. It’s inspiring to see boys and girls of different ages and abilities from diverse backgrounds working together, united by their passion for aviation—opportunities that would not be possible without the Trust's support.
